April 26, 2026 | The Beginning

The Hopkins Mangrove Restoration Taskforce began with a simple but important step, bringing people together.

On April 26, community members gathered for the first session, joined by the team from WWF Mesoamerica supporting the initiative. It created space to connect, share perspectives, and begin shaping a collective vision for mangrove restoration in Hopkins.

The conversation focused on what the village is seeing and experiencing. Areas in need of support were identified, and early ideas began to take form around what restoration could look like in the months ahead, from training opportunities to hands on work.

This was not just discussion. The group walked through the village together, observing the coastline and identifying key spaces where mangroves can and should return.
This is where the work starts. With people showing up, paying attention, and choosing to care for the places that sustain them.
