Tara

Scarborough

Our Founder

Tara Scarborough founded Tidal Legacy Foundation from one simple truth she carries deeply: Belize is not just a place we live. It is a home we are responsible for.

With over 10 years of experience in conservation and community focused work, Tara has spent her career at the intersection of people and nature, supporting initiatives that strengthen resilience, protect marine and coastal environments, and deepen public understanding of why stewardship matters. Along the way, she has seen something that stayed with her, the people most affected by environmental change are often the people least supported, and the young people who will inherit Belize are not always given the tools to lead and protect it.

Tidal Legacy was born from that gap. It was created as a reminder and a promise that stewardship cannot be left to a few experts, a few organizations, or a few moments in time. Stewardship must be built into everyday life, taught to our children, practiced in our neighborhoods, and carried forward through generations.

Tara believes that real change is not loud. It is consistent. It happens when young people feel seen, when communities are empowered instead of overlooked, and when we choose to protect what we love, even when no one is watching. Like the tides, her work is guided by steady movement, purpose, and a deep respect for legacy.

Through Tidal Legacy Foundation, Tara is committed to raising a generation of Belizeans who understand their power, who know their country is worth protecting, and who choose to leave behind something greater than what they inherited.

Core
Purpose

The core purpose of Tidal Legacy Foundation is to strengthen environmental stewardship and education, and to support the resilience of Belize’s natural environment and the people who depend on it. The Foundation places youth and community members at the center of its mission, recognizing that young people form the baseline for long-term stewardship and that empowered communities are essential for lasting resilience. Through education, skills building, community upliftment, and sustainable livelihood opportunities, the Foundation equips youth and adults with the knowledge, support, and opportunities needed to care for their environment and improve collective wellbeing.
